Zapata Falls in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of southern Colorado will wow the first time visitor. A slot canyon, after just one mile of hiking, and this incredible two tiered waterfall inside of a cave! I set my tripod up in the water below to catch this perspective with a wide angle lens, on the first try!
Just a few hundred yards from Hanging Lake near Glenwood Springs, Colorado (a trail that is so heavily trafficked in the summertime months that one must wait to take a bus to the trailhead), Spigot Rock is a unique waterfall, where water appears to just spout right out from the middle of the rock face. Check it out in winter to avoid the crowds and experience these unique ice formations (bring traction!)
A waterfall such as this one in Glacier National Park is such a powerful force it's best to admire from a safe distance, preferably while holding onto something.
Depending on which map is referenced, this is either Fern Falls or Marguerite Falls in Rocky Mountain National Park. An impressive cascade it is indeed, at a convenient resting spot on the trail. Moments like this, stumbling upon a 60 foot water terrace of pure beauty, are what make hiking the rewarding and unforgettable experience that it is.
