Upper Antelope Canyon, east of Page, Arizona, was formed when flash floods during the area's monsoon season accumulated and carved out these subterranean slot canyons. During the summer months, they are known for the light beams that occur for, at best, a few minutes a day when the angle of sunlight is just perfect. A Navajo guide is required to explore these canyons, and mine was kind enough to show me one of his favorite of these light beams. He even threw some dust in the air to accentuate this phenomenon as I graciously captured this moment with my camera.

Glowing Mesa
The Painted Desert of Northern Arizona is a national treasure, especially in the early morning or evening, when the lighting magically produces a palette of myriad colors. The colors in this beautiful desert all seem to transition smoothly from one to the next, leaving the visitor to wonder if there's even any colors missing.
No Worse for Wear
Despite its weathered nature, this photogenic tree remnant was happy to be the subject of a photo, with the more popular Castle Rock in Capitol Reef National Park playing second fiddle in the background.

Smooth Persuasion
Centuries of sporatic flash floods create these unique, flowing walls of the Southwest United States' slot canyons. This perspective of Zebra Canyon in Utah drew me in to see more.

Day by Day
Dead Horse Point State Park in Utah at sunrise is a sight to behold. As the light gradually washes over the rocks, first kissing just the tops, the colors of the landscape change dramatically. I think I caught this one at peak color! It's quite a contemplation...technically, this landscape changes a little bit every day.
Desert Delicacy
An hour-long hike from the trailhead, Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, Utah is a fun experience ("The journey is the reward") with a stunning rock formation at the end, that leaves the visitor with, perhaps, more perspective on the delicate systems that make the Earth the incredible marvel that it is.
